Mind Set

Living for Jesus is not about a set of rules, a list of do’s and (mostly) don’ts. Living for Christ is a total mind (re)set. Here are a couple of reminders today of how we can get the proper mindset, by setting our minds properly.
Romans 6:1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Sin and death (separation from God) no longer have a grip on those of us who have been united with Christ in baptism. We are now free to reset our minds, and therefore the way we live so that God is glorified! We have been raised to new life in Christ!
Colossians 3 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
If you still feel the pull of your former way of thinking, have no fear, you are not alone. Paul describes that very struggle in Romans 7, but filling our minds with the realities of heaven can help us overcome such struggles. Reading God’s Word daily, reading books that help us in our walk with Christ, listening to sermon podcasts, etc. are just a few steps we can take to help our mind set be where it needs to be.
Philippians 4:And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
While it is a spiritual battle we are undergoing, the battleground begins in the mind. Want to have the proper mindset to be a Christ follower? Reset your mind to focus on the realities of heaven. Fix your thoughts on the true, nobel, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable instead of the junk this world throws at you. Remember that you are united with Christ and as such have put to death that former way of thinking and living.

Praying for a proper mind set today, for you and for me!

Be God’s.
